Places to Visit in Ladakh

Ladakh is a high-altitude cold desert of monasteries, ochre ridgelines and some of the world’s highest motorable roads. Leh sits at about 3,500 m and serves as base camp for Khardung La, the dunes of Nubra Valley and the colour-shifting water of Pangong Tso. Both highways in — from Srinagar over Zoji La and from Manali over Baralacha La — are seasonal, opening roughly June to September. Build in two days of acclimatisation before going any higher; altitude ends more Ladakh trips than road conditions do.
